While Gene and Sam are out, the death of a young man being held on minor drug offenses occurs while in custody.  Sam struggles to investigate the death as Gene protects his team.  Sam is able to determine, after alienating his fellow coworkers that someone forced the young man to take cocaine resulting in a fatal heart attack which was being covered up by the others in the department.  Ray, who was demoted by Gene to Detective Constable, is found out to be the one responsible for this incident.
