After learning the entire CID department is on the payroll of an area local Mr. Big, the henchmen of Stephen Warren are arrested by Sam.  Going by the name Bolan, Sam goes to his former childhood home to see his mother who was being threatened by her landlord who happened to be one of Warren’s men.  A misunderstanding occurs when Sam attempts to help out his mother by giving her money.  Sam finds himself set up in a honey trap when he tries to go after Warren.  After seeing the error in her ways, the girl involved in the honey trap is killed by Warren.  Gene finally gets to put his guilt to rest when he helps Sam bring down Warren which occurs only after  Ray informs Gene that if he doesn’t play the game people will get hurt causing a disagreement between the two.  In the Grand National Sweepstakes, Sam tries to convince Gene to trade in his Red Rum for Proud Percy.
